Welcome to The Golden Thread Therapy.

 

I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor, Psychology graduate and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, working in line with their ethical framework. I provide empathetic, holistic, trauma -informed therapy to anyone experiencing emotional or psychological distress. This includes helping clients manage mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, improving confidence and self-esteem, navigating complex relationships, treatment for eating disorders and healing from trauma. I also offer support and guidance for those coping with grief/loss and high levels of stress or low mood.

Please know that this is not an exhaustive list. I am not here to place you in a rigid box. Human beings are ever different and ever changing to one and the other. Although these challenges may be interpreted as labels or diagnoses to some, to me they merely serve as a small guiding factor to discover your lived experience, in relation to the particular challenge or issue you are facing. ​​

My approach is centred around creating an honest, warm, safe space rooted in kindness and compassion. The purpose of this is for you to be able to comfortably explore your feelings/worries at your own pace, feel understood, accepted and appreciated, attain a sense of inner peace and calm, achieve a greater awareness of self, work towards positive change/growth and develop healthy coping mechanisms in place of unhealthy ones. I work in a neuro- affirmative way, making sure I adapt my approach to each client and their unique experiences.

In a nutshell, I pride myself with knowing that I offer a truly welcoming and non-judgemental atmosphere where you can talk about absolutely anything with me. I tend to work integratively, depending on what suits you. By using a blend of techniques from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution/Goal focussed therapy, Gestalt therapy & Humanistic therapy, I will empower you to ultimately reach your full potential in life. I will do this by helping you to recognise your own strengths and capacity for self-healing so that you may achieve greater independence and learn to trust in yourself. 

​Often our current challenges can have roots firmly buried in the past. Exploring the past can be incredibly insightful but is never easy. That being said, therapy can enable you to see past patterns, behaviours and beliefs surfacing time and again, perhaps in different forms, and help you to pick them apart. In doing so, you can become free from the shackles of the past, feeling more alive and empowered with your current life. We can’t change the past but we can develop a better relationship with it through reframing and diffusing. As a result, we can then influence our futures. Although we’re all shaped by our prior experiences it isn’t the totality of who we really are. Freeing oneself from the grip of the past doesn’t mean forgetting, but rather rescuing and reclaiming our lost selves.

Valuable therapeutic work tends to be in the here and now.

Staying and living in the present is a difficult task for everyone. We spend so much time thinking about past relationships &/or events that occurred yesterday or last week and planning for the future. It is therefore important to embrace living in the present. This is what allows understanding of what is happening in your life right in this moment, deeply experiencing feelings right now & recognizing how past negative feelings can harm the present, 

Discussing the future in therapy helps us create a vision and plan for personal fulfillment and success. By exploring your dreams, aspirations, and future plans, we can set goals and create a roadmap for growth. I will assist you in setting realistic goals, developing action plans, and overcoming potential obstacles. Through these discussions, we can cultivate hope, motivation, and a sense of purpose, empowering you to shape your life according to your desires and values. You might know the direction you want to go in, where you want to be and what you want to change but simply need help getting there.
